Cowon D2 or the iPod Nano?
Submitted by: andrewbimbo
When we think wild, performance uncontrolled, we think iPod Touch. When we think features, power, usability we think of Cowon D2. The reason for D2 being the best is is as complicated as it is simple. Why improve on perfection, or as close to it as possible in this imperfect world?
The Cowon D2 is a very unassuming player – as small as iPod Nano (nowhere close to the cool and sexy looks of iPod Nano), but twice as thick – and with very unappealing lines that make you go “Yuck!” at first. You’d ask then why am I talking about this portable media player…. read on if you want to know. After thinking “Yuck!”, you’d quickly realize that first impressions are not necessarily the last, and it’s more a device that you can live with daily rather than admire from a distance, much like the neighborhood belle when compared to a hot supermodel.
You want features? How does FLAC support, inbuilt FM radio (iPod Nano doesn’t still have this feature, I really like to listen to the local music and the newest hit tracks that are released on radio…. it also influences my music buying decision ), expandable memory ( I always sigh with relief when I read about expandable memory in the features list… my music library is always expanding and I need more space to put all those sweet sounds and the ability to expand memory as per my wish or need is a welcome feature which sadly iPod Nano does not have ), a touchscreen (I love touching the screen, I think they are next gen feature and soon every device will spot a touchscreen), text editing and notepad support sound to you? This device is also an amazing music player as well, I found that the music quality on certain songs was even better than iPod Nano and in general is very good and there isn’t much noticeable difference in the music quality and although the screen is on the small side, it offers a fantastic movie experience as well. It’s very powerful, and offers more features and performance per cubic inch than any other device I can think of. The Cowon D2 is all about functionality and features, and you will find lots of settings to play with while playing music or even when playing movies. In fact, I’m surprised at the equalizer options, where cut-offs can be set for each frequency range – for example, you can set set the first equalizer from 40 Hz to 80 Hz or to 110 Hz . The only possible issue with the Cowon D2 is it’s little thick for it’s little dimensions, and may not gain popularity as an in-pocket jogging companion as the iPod Nano. I couldn't find anything else to nitpick, but it’s a way of a class A device to deliver all the goods with nary hint of bad in sight.
