Skip Partitions And Use Vertical Blinds

Submitted by: judithpersit

Whenever the division of a room is desired, it has been traditionally achieved by the erection of a permanent wall which usually requires the hiring of a qualified person to construct said wall, high costs of material and labor, issuance of building permits by a governmental department and major disruptions during the building process. With the advent and popularity of vertical blinds, the desired result can be easily achieved at a much lower cost, much less hassle and moreover, as a by-product of the decision to use vertical blinds as room dividers, the option of fully opening the vertical blind reverts the room in question to its original 'wide open space' design.

Often churches and other organizations with large rooms will want to use a folding door, or a different type of retractable room partition to make multipurpose rooms into individual meeting rooms. These partitions are usually noisy and do not insulate much of the distracting sounds. When a simple space divider is what is desired, a vertical blind may be good for the job. Vertical blinds can be retracted, and when done as center opening, vertical blinds can have a small stack on the sides, and almost disappear completely.

Vertical blinds also offer the ability to be made as a pair of tracks and then be made into center open to be able to cover a much wider space. A standard folding door may be limited to twelve feet. On the other hand, a vertical blind is limited to 16 feet wide. Therefore, two vertical blinds can be butted together to make for as big as thirty-two feet of space coverage. If vertical blinds can be big enough to cover that wide of a space, then they are large enough to divide most any room.

It should be considered that vertical blinds are usually independent operating. While it would be nice to interconnect two vertical blinds to be controlled with a single pull cord, you will never be able to control two tracks with a single chain. As a result, vertical blinds are relegated to be used as separate operating systems. However, the true simplicity and ease with which they can be manipulated make vertical blinds a real good resource when treating this situation.

Large vertical blinds do have another issue to consider when using as a room divider. The cost of shipping a track larger than eight feet is likely to be so high as to be restrictive. However, considering that the surcharges may end up less than the cost of constructing a new wall with construction permits and electrician fees, you can think that vertical blinds are still a good option for you.

Regardless of the specific application for a vertical blind, whether as a room divider or as a window/door treatment, the issue of child safety should always be ever present when making the decision. Controls of the vertical blind must always be fastened as recommended by the manufacturer and to meet legal requirements. Vertical blinds normally have two controls - a cord operated carrier control which allows the opening and closing and a chain operated rotator system. These controls allow for the opening and closing of vertical blind and the rotation of the vertical blind louvers.

Whenever vertical blinds are used as room dividers, ceiling installation is the preferred way of installing the blind. At times and due to the many different ceiling systems available, the installation of the vertical blind will require the placement of a hard surface that will enable the blind to be installed firmly and properly operate as desired. This requirement, if needed, oftentimes calls for the installation to be performed by an experienced, professional individual in order to achieve the necessary results.

For the goal of noise control, while there is little that can be done to eliminate the noise of the rooms, it is recommended that one use fabric vertical blinds to try to minimize noise. This is principally because the PVC from blinds will often tap into the other pieces, and make a constant drone of tapping. On the other hand, the fabric will not be noisy when it touches.

When selecting vertical blinds as room dividers, you should also consider how the control system will appear to occupants. A good supplier can also provide a double valance. This valance is not the typical cover. On the contrary, this special double valance would be two valances, one to cover the front of the track, and one to cover the back of the vertical blind track. This has the benefit of a greater uniform and finer presentation for the blinds.
