Tips for Choosing Dedicated Servers

Submitted by: genwright

The price for dedicated servers are becoming more and more affordable with each passing day due to more widespread adoption. That means for a small monthly fee, you have the use of a dedicated server. The main reason why you need a dedicated server is because your website needs dedicated resources.

Many business owners like to use shared hosting to host their websites and online applications. But the problem with shared hosting is that if one user overcome the resources, all the websites get affected. If you don't mind your website going down every now and then, shared hosting can still work for you.

But in today's business cenario, very few businesses can afford to have their websites go offline. In fact, the website has become the front door. Without the store front, there can be no sales. And that affects the revenues of the business. So if your website is important to your business, consider hosting it on a dedicated server. Here are some tips on how to choose a good hosting provider.

1) Upgradeable options.

If you are just starting out with a dedicated server, you probably won't need a high end machine. A basic machine will do just fine, unless you have a very crowded website. Make sure that the service provider allow you to upgrade easily as your business grows.

Basic machines usually start with 512MB to 1GB RAM. Higher end machines come with 2 GB memory and up, as well as a larger amount of disk space and computing resources.

2) Control panel and software.

Control panel and related software should also be bundled. If you are familiar with Linux servers, WHM is the most popular choice. But if you are familiar with Windows servers, HELM servidor dedicado may be your preferred control panel.

3) Managed vs unmanaged dedicated servers.

Having managed servers means that additional labor resources will be dedicated to your company. For example, monitoring or special backup techniques will be available for managed servers, but not for unmanaged servers. Managed hosting also means that you get more support from the vendor. So if you need more technical support, managed hosting would be a safe decision. Of course, managed plans will cost you a bit more.

4) Migrating from shared hosting server to dedicated hosting.

Buying dedicated hosting is not just a technical decision. It is also a business decision. Buying dedicated hosting has to match your needs as well. Watch out for indications that may prompt you to upgrade. For instance, shared servers seems to be down regularly. You also notice that as more and more visitors come to your site, the loading time looks to get worse. In order to continue supporting the amount of traffic you are getting, perhaps its time to upgrade.

5) Hosting technical support.

Finally, make sure that you are getting enough support from your hosting company. If you run into problems with your dedicated server (e.g. hardware errors), your hosting company may be the only help you can get to help to rectify the situation. Having excellent support means that they should respond promptly to your problems (usually within 12 business hours).
