A History of Microsoft
Submitted by: urlreader
Microsoft is one of the biggest companies in the world. Thanks to its ambitious founders, Bill Gates and Paul Allen, Microsoft has become a household name all over the world. Microsoft specializes in developing, licensing and selling software in the computers and technology industry. Microsoft was partly responsible for revolutionizing the way we live, work and socialize in everyday life. Bill Gates' early motivation was to help make it possible for computers running their software to be on every work desk and in every home. It is very rare to find someone who has never used one of Microsoft's wide ranges of software at some point in their lives.
Microsoft was founded in 1975 by two young men named Bill Gates and Paul Allen in Albuquerque, New Mexico and even though they started off very small, they had very big ambitions which were to be realized in years to come. The business really made it into the big time in 1985 thanks to the release of an operating system called OS/2, developed in partnership with IBM. Their popularity and success got bigger in 1989 with the development and release of Microsoft Office which included a bundle of different applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. A year later in 1990 they really exploded onto the scene with the release of Microsoft Windows, a new take on the operating system which made command driven operating systems look obsolete. Microsoft Windows incorporated a WIMP interface which would make it much more easy to use and therefore accessible to a wider mass market.
Over the past fifteen years or so, Microsoft has helped create an astonishing 12,000 different individual millionaires. The latest Microsoft Windows operating system to have been released is Vista. The operating systems have seen an enormous amount of change over the years and Microsoft themselves have grown, developed and imposed their products into many different markets, such as the video game market where they released their games consoles Microsoft Xbox and the Xbox 360 to compete with Nintendo and Sony.
They have also created a business division which creates products for numerous businesses across different industries helping them with their everyday activities. An example of their ever changing business division is the acquisition of Great Plains Software to create Microsoft Dynamics GP. These new technologies pave the way for more businesses to grow not only by using the software itself but for companies like Connecticut Microsoft Dynamics GP consultant resellers.
