Curtains On Broadway - Music And Mystery Together

Submitted by: reedstickets

The stage is set. The curtains are drawn. The show is a funny, metallic musical of the 1950s – “Curtains”. Expect nothing but an outstanding performance by David Hyde Pierce, winner of four Emmy Awards, and Debra Monk, winner of Tony Award. The music given by John Kander and Fred Ebb penetrates your heart and soul.

If you think “Curtains” is just another musical, you are wrong. It’s a backstage murder mystery, quite thrilling in its own way. The show begins with the mysterious death of the leading lady onstage, even while the theater echoes with the applauding of the audience as the show ends.

Who is the culprit? The producer (played by Debra Monk), the director, the stage manager, the songwriters, the actors – everybody in the company are under suspicion. The case is handled by a local detective (played by David Hyde Pierce). The detective is an avid theater fan and the idea of investigating in a backstage murder mystery excites him to no end.

As he continues with the investigation, he lets the company carry out their rehearsals. Soon, he finds himself in a hysterical mayhem where egos clash and the quirky behavior of the stage artists and other people go over his head. And if this was not enough for the detective, there are more murders. Amidst the chaos, there is a blossoming love affair too.

“Curtains” is set in the backdrop of 1959’s Boston Colonial Theater. The star cast includes Noah Racey, Jason Danieley, John Bolton, Robert Walden, Jill Paice, Michael McCormick, Michael X Martin, and Megan Sikora.

The entire team behind the making of this hilarious musical-cum-murder mystery includes Jennifer Dunne, Ward Billeisen, Nili Bassman, Patty Goble, Austin Eyer, Mary Ann Lamb, Matt Farnsworth, Brittany Marcin, Joe Aaron Reid, Jessica Lea Patty, Jim Newman, Christopher Spaulding, Darcie Roberts, and David Eggers.

The book “Curtains” has been authored by Rupert Holmes. “Curtains” is one of the final collaborations by the terrific team of Kander, the music composer, and Ebb, the lyricist. Their team has created history in Broadway by becoming one of the longest-running songwriter team. They had composed astounding tunes and lyrics for “Chicago”, “Cabaret”, “Zorba”, “Kiss of the Spider Woman”, “The Rink”, “The Visit”, and “Woman of the Year”. Ebb passed away in 2004.

The world premiere of “Curtains” was held on July 25, 2007. If you have missed this mega event, don’t get disheartened. The producer of this musical comedy has teamed up with Roger Horchow, Daryl Roth, and the Center Theater Group to shift the $10 million “Curtains” to Broadway by the end of fall. The show is about to open on August 9 and will run till September 10.

The tickets to “Curtains” won’t be available easily. It’s better to book online, or call the CTG Audience Services, or visit the Center Theater Group box office. Whatever you do, be quick about it, because the tickets won’t be there for long. The bookings has already begun.

As mentioned earlier, the stage is set and the curtains are drawn!
